Regenerative Practices & Sustainability Policy
at eumelia great care is given to protect nature through regenerative, biodynamic and permaculture practices. Our hotel facilities are deigned through bioclimatic architecture to protect nature and humans. Minimizing energy use, food waste and water consumption. Recycling and upcycling inputs. As well as involving the local economy and promoting community empowerment. Helping nature regenerate, to heal herself and respecting humans are a priority at eumelia. Below are the practices used to accomplish that:
Regenerative & Organic
- Organic, Regenerative Biodynamic and Permaculture farming practices
- Composting weeds, dry plants, prunings and leafs from the garden and farm. As well as vegetable leftovers from the kitchen in order to create new soil for our vegetable gardens
- All the food provided in our BioCafe and Restaurant is organically grown at the farm, or certified organic from other producers
Bioclimatic Architecture
- The buildings were designed using bioclimatic architecture
- Paint used inside the buildings is made from natural material and essential oils
- The color plaster used inside and outside our buildings is made from natural minerals thus providing healthy living areas
Recycling & Upcycling
- Recycling our grey and black water and use it to water gardens & trees as well as manure for trees
- Avoid buying plastic products for our farm. We reuse, upcycle and buy material and products from sustainable sources
- Recycle at the source, guests, separate organic material, recycling material and other waste in their rooms
Energy & Water Conservation
- Geothermal heat pump for heating and cooling
- Energy efficient wood fireplaces with efficiency of combustion that exceeds 75%
- Solar water heating system to warm the water
- LED lights and low consumption light bulbs minimize energy consumption and electronic waste
- Minimizing the use of water by using ecological water efficient faucets and dual button flush toilet buttons
- Encourage our guests to participate in our environmental initiative to have their towels and bed sheets changed less often. Our bed linen and towel policy is to change them every 3 days. Unless requested otherwise in order to minimize water use, energy consumption and wear on machine washers
- Line dry linen & towels in order to save energy
Natural Products
- Ecological and natural mattresses as well as bath towels and linen used in the hotel
- Natural and organic cleaning material
- Single use cups, plates and eating utensils are made from natural resources
Food Waste
- Leftover cooked food is fed to our dogs, pigs and chickens
- Leftover uncooked vegetables are fed to our chickens
Local Economy & Community Empowerment
- Buy local food and products in order to support sustainability and local farmers
- Support local businesses in order to help improve their sustainability and income stabilization
- Work with local farmers, handcrafters & artisans as well as workshop and seminar instructors in order to involve the local community and introduce them to our guests
- Involve local youth & volunteers in our projects in order to encourage them to participate in our sustainability efforts and encourage the spirit of volunteering
- Minimize outside resources and costs in order to be self sufficient
